Washburn sophomore Jacob Klemz qualified for the NCAA Division II cross country national championships meet after finishing third in Saturday’s regional meet in Kearney, Neb.
Klemz was the top finisher among MIAA runners, clocking a time of 31:39:80 in the 10-kilometer run.
The national meet with held Nov. 18 in Evansville, Ind. Klemz placed 58th at nationals last year.
Tanner Hockenbury had the next best placer for the Ichabods, finishing 72nd. The WU men finished 19th as a team.
The Washburn women were led by Sierra Mortensen’s 11th place finish at regionals. Mortensen, a freshman, set a school record in the 6-k race with a time of 21:47.54. Kaylee Snell posted a 78th-place finish for the WU women, who finished 18th as a team.
