WU volleyball edges No. 18 UCM in five sets; Ichabod soccer falls in OT

Five players reached double figures in kills as the Washburn volleyball team knocked off No. 18-ranked Central Missouri in five sets (22-25, 25-19, 18-25, 25-23, 15-8) on Friday in Lee Arena.

 

Freshman Allison Sadler posted a career-best 60 assists while Genna Berg led all Ichabods with 15 kills. Makayla Maxwell and Erica Montgomery had 14 kills each and Allison Maxwell and Taylor Selk added 13 and 11, respectively.

Faith Rottinghaus had a team-best 21 digs.

Washburn trailed 20-16 in the fourth set before the Ichabods put together a 9-3 run to force a fifth.

The Ichabods fell behind 6-3 in the fifth set set but used an 11-1 run to take control. A kill from Berg clinched the match.

Washburn improved to 11-5 overall and 2-2 in the MIAA.

WASHBURN SOCCER FALLS IN OT: The Washburn soccer team saw its three-game winning streak snapped with a 3-2 overtime loss to Central Oklahoma on Friday night at Yager Stadium.

UCO’s Mikayla Lowery scored the game-winning goal 5:16 into the overtime period.

Washburn (5-3-1) led 1-0 at halftime on a goal from Rebecca Weimer but the Bronchos took the lead after goals from Asha Haile and Falyn Dodd.

WU found the equalizer with a goal from Kelsi Smith in the 80th minute of regulation before Lowery ended the game in the extra session.

Goalkeeper Kaitlin Minnich had a season-high 11 saves for the Ichabods.
