Youth and Women’s Celebrity Pheasant Hunt set for Dec. 9

The Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism will host its 2017 Youth and Women’s Celebrity Pheasant Hunt on Dec. 9 at Lake Waconda.

There will be a 7:15 a.m. breakfast in the basement of Hopewell Church at Glen Elder State Park. Lunch also will be provided by the Waconda Lake Association, according to a news release, and a special hunters’ banquet and dinner will take place later that night to wrap up the event.

Youths ages 11-16 and women are eligible to apply for the hunt, and previous hunting experience isn’t required. Some shotguns and ammunition can be provided for those without equipment, and there are 40 spots available.

Hunters must apply no later than Nov. 30 by calling the Glen Elder Area Office at (785) 545-3345 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Past celebrity/hero mentors at the event include former professional athletes, television personalities and military personnel.

For more information or to serve as a mentor, contact Chris Lecuyer at (785) 545-3345.
