KU women’s basketball down Texas Tech, earn first Big 12 road win since 2015

Jayhawks outscore Red Raiders 24-7 in first quarter

LUBBOCK, Texas — Midway through his third season as head coach for the rebuilding Kansas women’s basketball program, Brandon Schneider has earned a significant first.

 

The Jayhawks defeated Texas Tech, 60-47, on Wednesday night at United Supermarkets Arena, earning Schneider his first Big 12 road victory. KU hadn’t won on the road in conference play since a 65-58 victory at Oklahoma on Feb. 28, 2015.

Brianna Osorio had 19 points for the Jayhawks (11-3, 2-1 Big 12), who outscored the Red Raiders (6-8, 0-3) 24-7 in the first quarter. Osorio scored 11 points in the period, all coming in the final 2:14.

Osorio finished with four 3-pointers, while Kylee Kopatich had three 3s for KU. Former Jayhawk guard McKenzie Calvert, who started for Texas Tech and played 27 minutes, scored no points on 0-for-8 shooting in her first game against her former team.

KU returns to action at 2 p.m. Saturday against No. 6 Baylor at Allen Fieldhouse.
