Chiefs to open 2017 season at Patriots

KC will play six primetime games

The Kansas City Chiefs will get plenty of primetime exposure in 2017. The NFL released its schedule for the upcoming season on Thursday night, and the Chiefs will play a league-high six primetime TV games, the most in team history, beginning with the NFL’s first game of the season at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 7 at defending champ New England on NBC.

It is the first time in team history the Chiefs will play in the NFL’s season-opening game.

“Being selected to play in the season-opening game and having a league-high six primetime contests is a tremendous honor and a tribute to our team and organization,” Chiefs coach Andy Reid said in a release. “We’ve already started preparation for these teams and we know we have a lot of great challenges ahead of us. We are looking forward to getting in front of Chiefs Kingdom and building off the success we had last season.”

Three of the Chiefs’ primetime TV games are at Arrowhead Stadium. The first will be at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 2 against Washington on Monday Night Football. The second will be at 7:30 p.m. October 30 against the Denver Broncos (ESPN) and the third will be against the Los Angeles Chargers at 7:30 p.m. December 16 (NFLN).

The team’s other two primetime road games are October 8 at Houston and October 19 at Oakland. The Chiefs and Texans will kick off at 7:30 p.m. (NBC) and the game against the Raiders will start at 7:25 p.m. (CBS/NFLN/Amazon).

The Chiefs’ first home game of the 2017 season will be at noon Sept. 17 against Philadelphia and be broadcast on FOX. Other home highlights include a rematch against the Pittsburgh Steelers at 3:25 p.m. Oct. 15 and a clash with Oakland at noon on Dec. 10. The Chiefs will have a bye week in Week 10 and will wrap up the regular season with a 3:25 p.m. road contest in Denver.

The Chiefs’ first preseason game of the year will be against the San Francisco 49ers at 8 p.m. Aug. 11 at Arrowhead Stadium. The Chiefs will then play road games at Cincinnati and Seattle before finishing the preseason back home against the Tennessee Titans at 7:30 p.m. Aug 31.
