MANHATTAN — Oklahoma spent much of Wednesday night’s game at Kansas State playing catch-up.

The Sooner women finally did in the fourth quarter and snuck out of Bramlage Coliseum with a 76-71 victory over the Wildcats. Shaina Pellington’s layup with 2:52 left put Oklahoma up for good and the Sooners followed with two huge defensive plays to fight off Kansas State late.

After Pellington’s layup, Oklahoma’s Vionise Pierre-Louis blocked a game-tying field goal attempt by Topeka native Peyton Williams, who led the Wildcats with 23 points. After the Sooners missed at the other end, Sooner guard Gabbi Ortiz stripped Williams for a steal and fed Pierre-Louis for a layup with 1:30 left to make it a four-point game.

Kansas State got as close as two on Shaelyn Martin’s bucket with 1:05 left, but Oklahoma answered at the other end with a Pierre-Louis three-point play to seal the win.

Williams hit 10 of 17 field goals on her way to the 23-point night and she also led the Wildcats (11-7 overall, 3-4 in Big 12 play) with seven rebounds and six steals. Kayla Goth added 16 points and Rachel Ranke had 13 for K-State, which led at the end of each of the first three quarters.

Ortiz hit 6 of 11 3-pointers and led Oklahoma (9-9, 4-3) with 20 points, while Pierre-Louis added 18 points, Pellington had 16 and Maddie Manning had 10.
