K-State women rally in fourth quarter to top Iowa State

Four Wildcats reach double figures

AMES, Iowa — When Kansas State’s women missed 15 of 16 shots and managed only eight points in the third quarter, few would have guessed the Wildcats had the Iowa State Cyclones right where they wanted them Wednesday night.

But that’s exactly how the situation played out. K-State dominated the fourth quarter, outscoring the Cyclones 29-15 to turn a 45-38 deficit into a 67-60 victory at Hilton Coliseum.

Rachel Ranke buried three 3-pointers in the opening minutes of the final period to ignite a 20-8 run that gave K-State a 58-53 lead with 3:41 to play. The Wildcats (10-6, 2-3 Big 12) then held on during the final two-plus minutes, thanks largely to five key points from Kayla Goth.

The 29 points in the final 10 minutes tied K-State’s season high for a quarter and gave coach Jeff Mittie his 525th career victory.

Goth finished with a team-high 16 points, and Ranke added 14 points. Topekan Peyton Williams and Wamego product Kaylee Page each added double-doubles for the Wildcats, with Williams providing 15 points and 11 rebounds and Page contributing 13 points and 10 boards.

Iowa State (7-9, 1-4) was led by Bride Kennedy-Hopoate with 17 points and Bridget Carleton with 16 and 11 rebounds.

K-State will return to action at 1 p.m. Saturday when it plays host to No. 20 Oklahoma State at Bramlage Coliseum. The game will be broadcast on FSN.
