Goth scores 25, helps K-State women overcome slow start vs. UT Arlington

MANHATTAN — Kansas State’s women started slowly Wednesday night, but a 14-0 run in the second quarter and a dominating performance from Kayla Goth in the third period helped the Wildcats rally for a 70-56 win against UT Arlington at Bramlage Coliseum.

K-State managed only two points during the first six minutes and spotted Arlington a 12-2 lead when Aysia Evans buried a 3-pointer. The Mavericks still owned an 18-12 edge early in the second quarter when Rebekah VanDijk hit a layup that was part of her team-high 20 points.

The Wildcats, however, responded. When Rachel Ranked drilled a 3-pointer with 7:20 to play in the first half, it sparked a 14-0 blitz that put K-State in control for good. Ranke and Kaylee Page each scored five points during the run and Goth hit a pair of free throws to cap it at the 1:32 mark and put K-State in front 26-18.

Goth then put away the Mavericks by scoring a whopping 19 of her game-high 25 points in the third quarter, sending K-State into the final period with a 55-42 cushion.

Goth, a junior from Deforest, Wis., finished going 9 for 15 from the field, 6 for 7 from the free-throw line and 1 for 2 from 3-point range. She also delivered a game-high five assists.

Page finished with 12 points for the Wildcats (5-2), and freshman Cymone Goodrich added 10. Shaelyn Martin led K-State’s rebounding effort, grabbing 15 boards.

Arlington’s VanDijk matched Martin’s 15 rebounds, and Crystal Allen joined VanDijk in double-figure scoring with 14 points for the Mavericks (5-2).
