K-State women’s basketball signs big juco transfer

MANHATTAN — The Kansas State women’s basketball team picked up a big addition to this year’s team and received a local commitment for the following season.

K-State coach Jeff Mittie announced Thursday the signing of Anastasia Tsybaeva, a transfer from East Los Angeles College. At 6-foot-7, Tsybaeva is the tallest player in program history and will have two years of eligibility.

The center from Burbank, Calif., averaged 7.3 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.8 blocks in 28 games last season at East L.A., earning second team all-conference honors. She averaged 6.0 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.8 blocks as a freshman.

“I like her upside,” Mittie said. “She has good touch around the rim and has the ability to knock down face-up jumpers.”

K-State received a commitment for the 2018 recruiting class from Laura Macke of Nemaha Central, as reported by MCS Sports of Hiawatha.

The 6-1 Macke was on The Capital-Journal All-Class 3A team last season, averaging 15.4 points, 6.8 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 2.4 steals. She also was recruited by Kansas, Creighton and UMKC.
