Runners' road trip starts in New Mexico

The Topeka RoadRunners will begin a seven-game road swing at 7:05 p.m. Thursday at New Mexico.

The RoadRunners (31-8-3) also will take on the Mustangs (12-28-3) at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. RoadRunners’ games can be heard online on Country Legends’ website,

Topeka, which has won 12 of its past 13 games, will be trying to protect a 10-point lead in the North American Hockey League’s South Division. The RoadRunners are 4-0 against New Mexico.

Two new players were acquired by the RoadRunners before the trade deadline. Pat Conte comes from the Buffalo Jr. Sabres of the Ontario Junior Hockey League, while Jake Lynes comes from the Lincoln Stars of the United States Hockey League.

The RoadRunners also announced that forwards Justin Hussar and Brian Christie have committed to play at Division I Merrimack College. Hussar will begin at Merrimack in 2012, while Christie will join the Warriors in 2013. RoadRunners goalie Rasmus Tirronen previously committed to Merrimack for next season.
