RoadRunners whip Ice Rays

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The Topeka RoadRunners started a five-game road swing in fine fashion Thursday night, scoring three goals in the opening period and cruising to a 7-1 victory against Corpus Christi.

Jordan Davis connected at the 5:34 mark of the first frame to get Topeka's onslaught started. Andrew White and Zach Schrotenboer added goals in the opening period, and Nate Milam scored early in the second to make it 4-0 before Corpus Christi's Kyle Hughes scored the Ice Rays' only goal.

Andrew O'Leary, Justin Hussar and Scott Moyer completed the scoring for the RoadRunners with third-period connections.

Topeka goalie Eric Rohrkemper stopped 30 of 31 shots, and the Runners denied all eight of the Ice Rays' power-play attempts.

Topeka (21-8-2) and Corpus Christi (13-18-2) play the second game of a three-game set tonight.
