Turner claims share of lead with 836 series

City's all-time record-holder caps latest effort with perfect game

City bowling record-holder Kyle Turner made the most of a late-season outing over the weekend at West Ridge Lanes to tie Ron Bahr for the lead on the men’s series honor roll.

Turner, who at age 19 tossed an all-time city-best 878 series in October 2009 at Gage Bowl North, strung together games of 258, 278 and 300 for an 836 series Saturday night in the Northern Lights League.

Bahr had held the lead alone since Jan. 27 when he shot 300-289-247 – 836 in the Big 10 Men’s League at West Ridge.

Turner’s perfect game was the 37th men’s open-league 300 and the 45th overall this season, which includes one women’s, three senior men’s and four youth boys’ 300s.

Just missing the 800 milestone last week were Troy Bell, who shot 260-258-278 – 796 on Tuesday in the Gage Majors League at Gage Center Bowl, and Allen Payne, who rolled 269-269-254 – 792 on Thursday in the JPJ & Associates League at Center.

Other top men’s scores: Greg Glenn, 255-243-278 – 776, and Matt Turpin, 267-238-257 – 762, a week ago Monday in the Sundowners League at West Ridge.

Kristina Walker paced the women with a 217-213-264 – 694 series in the Friday Mixer League at West Ridge, while Kim Halseth tossed a 268 game in the same league.

The seniors were led by Jim Charity, who shot 256-237-256 – 749 last Thursday in the Senior Wheel of Fortune League at West Ridge to move into seventh place on the honor roll, and Ann Dick, who rolled 192-180-235 – 607 in the same league to tie for 12th.

In youth action, Blake Massey claimed the boys’ three-game series lead with a 257-279-225 – 761 outing at West Ridge (his 279 is tied for seventh place); Cody Mzhickteno shot 276 – 868 and Cayla Bortz rolled 222 – 723 over four games at Center; and Gabi Millard shot 220-198-210 – 628 at West Ridge to rank 11th.
