The Wrights to present two Christmas concerts in Topeka churches

A Tecumseh-based southern gospel group will perform two Christmas concerts this coming week in the capital city.

 

The Wrights will be in concert at 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 17, at Family of God Church, 1231 N.W. Eugene.

Then, at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20, the Wrights will perform during a candlelight service at Harvest Family Fellowship, 522 S.W. Polk.

Group members include Brett, Melissa, Baylor and Terry Wright.

There is no admission charge and a freewill offering will be taken at each of the concerts.

— St. Mark’s African Methodist Episcopal, 801 N.W. Harrison, will have its “Ugly Christmas Sweater Brunch” from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16. The event is sponsored by the Jamesina M. Evans Women’s Missionary Society. The cost is $5.

— Rapper Ron “Get Right RH” Haggerty will be featured in the “Gospel Explosion” event at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, at Kingdom Life Church, 621 S.E. Swygart.

— Topeka Bible Church will have its Light Show 2.0 with free showings at 6, 7, 8 and 9 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, and Sunday, Dec. 17, inside the auditorium of its College Avenue Building, 1135 S.W. College. The event will include a hot cocoa bar, children’s play area, photo opportunities and glow sticks for everyone in attendance. Seating is limited to 400 per show. — First Lutheran Church, 1234 S.W. Fairlawn, will have a “Lessons and Carols” service featuring organ, choir and orchestra at 10 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 17.

— Bethel Baptist Church, 4011 N. Kansas Ave, will have its children’s Christmas program at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 17.

— First Free Will Baptist Church, 3900 S.W. Shunga Drive, will present special music with the Chad Boney Family at 11 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 17. The Boney family is from Wichita.

— Westminster Presbyterian Church will sponsor a Christmas caroling event at 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 17, at the gazebo in Boswell Park, near S.W. 13th and Boswell. Anyone wishing to participate is invited to join in singing favorite carols with family, friends and neighbors. Following the caroling, attendees are invited to walk across the street to enjoy hot chocolate, coffee and cookies in the parlor of the church at 1275 S.W. Boswell.

— The second annual “Evening of Holiday Cheer!” concert will take place at 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 17, at First Lutheran Church, 1234 S.W. Fairlawn. Performers will include Cole Bellamy, Kolby Van Camp and Samantha Williams. Accompaniment will be provided by organist Jerry Anderson and pianist Debbie Packard. Non-perishable food items will be collected on behalf of Harvesters Food Network and monetary contributions will benefit On Stage Live.

— Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 3625 S.W. Wanamaker, will have a Blue Christmas service for those who are hurting emotionally and spiritually at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20.

— First Lutheran Church, 1234 S.W. Fairlawn, will have a New Year’s Eve communion service at 10 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 31.

— Calvary Lutheran Church, 4211 N.W. Topeka Blvd., will have a New Year’s Eve Divine Service at 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 31.

— The Watch Night Service for the Topeka Convention will be held at 10 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 31, at St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church, 2222 S.E. Madison. The year-end meal will be served at 9 p.m. Elder David Helm, of Mount Olive Primitive Baptist Church, will preach.

— The Topeka Singing Convention service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 7, at St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church, 2222 S.E. Madison. Youth and adult Choirs will sing and the message will be delivered by the Rev. Ollie Johnson Jr.
