The Topeka Community Foundation is seeking nonprofits to participate in Topeka Gives 2018, the foundation said this week.
Organizations wanting to participate in the event, slated for June 5 at Fairlawn Plaza, must attend one of four informational sessions in January, said Marsha Pope, TCF president. The sessions, where logistical information about the event will be provided, are required for nonprofits to participate in Topeka Gives.
Since 2013, Topeka Gives has brought together the city’s nonprofits at Fairlawn Plaza, where community members receive information about organizations and make donations.
Pope said the event has come a long way since it started. That year, 75 organizations participated, and a little less than $190,000 was raised. Last year, more than $595,000 was raised with 169 nonprofits participating, an increase from 157 organizations in 2016.
“We were to the moon with excitement,” she said. “We never thought we could raise more than that.”
Those who attend the June 5 event will be required to make a minimum $25 donation to any nonprofit, and TCF will match donations. So far, about $65,000 is available for matching, but Pope said that number likely will grow.
Pope said the event reaches all most all of the area’s nonprofits, but she’s hopeful giving will continue to grow.
“We’ve never set a goal for how much we want to raise,” she said. “Instead, we want to bring attention to Topeka’s nonprofits.”
Informational meetings for nonprofits will be held at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Jan. 18, and 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Jan. 25.
