Keith Jones, principal at Chase Middle School since 2015, will be the next principal at Lawrence South Middle School, Lawrence school officials and Jones confirmed this week.
“I’ve known Keith for several years and have always been highly impressed with his passion for students and positive energy,” Lawrence Unified School District 497 superintendent Kyle Hayden said in a news release earlier this month. “He was able to authentically articulate a clear vision for South Middle School throughout the interview process.”
Jones told The Topeka Capital-Journal that he is excited to return to the Lawrence school district, where he currently lives and was the assistant principal at Free State High School before taking the Chase job two years ago. He was named Topeka USD 501’s 2016 Middle School Educator of the Year.
According to documents for Thursday’s USD 501 board of education meeting, Kelley Norman, principal at Highland Park Central Elementary, will be the interim principal at Chase beginning July 19.
