A Jackson County district judge on Friday sentenced a 66-year-old Holton man to serve nine years, nine months in prison for the second-degree murder of his wife.

George Fleshman Jr. was also required, after that sentence has been completed, to register as a violent offender and serve three years of post-release supervision.

A Jackson County District Court jury in December convicted Fleshman after about three hours of deliberation of the murder of his wife, 61-year-old Beth Fleshman.

Authorities were called Oct. 20, 2015, to the couple’s home, where Beth Fleshman was found to be unresponsive. She died the next day. An autopsy indicated her death was caused by trauma to the spleen.

George Fleshman was arrested in connection with the slaying in March 2016.
