Riley County Police have released the name of the man who allegedly shot a police officer on Friday in Manhattan.
According to the department’s arrest report, Mark Jason Harrison, 38, of 3716 Hawthorne Woods Circle, is being held in the Riley County jail on $2 million bond for attempted capital murder of a law enforcement officer.
The incident was reported about 12:30 p.m. on Friday in the 3700 block of Hawthorne Woods Circle, about 3 miles northwest of the Kansas State University campus, police said.
Officers responded to a report of a domestic situation. When officers arrived, one officer was shot. The officer’s injuries weren’t believed to be life-threatening.
The officer was treated at a local hospital.
Additional officers responded to the scene where the shooter was barricaded.
Brad Schoen, director of the Riley County police department, said the man surrendered without further resistance after about two hours.
A woman was able to escape the home, Schoen said. The RCPD said in “an effort to ensure transparency,” the Kansas Bureau of Investigation will lead the investigation since the incident involves the discharge of a firearm by a police officer.
