Car crashes into house after collision Tuesday near downtown Topeka

One car hit a house after it was involved in a two-vehicle crash Tuesday morning just southwest of downtown Topeka.

The incident was reported at around 11:10 a.m. at S.W. Huntoon and Polk.

Police at the scene said a Jeep Grand Cherokee was southbound in the 1200 block of S.W. Polk and failed to yield at a stop sign to a black, four-door Ford Fiesta that was traveling east on Huntoon.

The vehicles collided in the intersection.

The Ford, which had front-end damage, came to rest after hitting a brick porch support on the northwest corner of a house at 1242 S.W. Polk.

The Jeep, which sustained heavy front-end damage, came to rest facing southwest in the intersection.

Police said neither the man driving the Jeep nor the female driver of the Ford had serious injuries. Neither was expected to be taken by ambulance to the hospital.

Traffic on Huntoon was shut down a block west at S.W. Taylor as crews cleared the crash scene.

It’s the first reported vehicle-into-building crash of 2018 in Topeka and the second in the past four days.
