Topeka police were investigating an attempted armed robbery of a convenience store and gas station that occurred late Monday on the city’s southwest side.

Police Sgt. Steven Block said officers were sent at 10:49 p.m. Monday to the Quick Stop at 3101 S.W. 29th on a report of an armed robbery.

Upon their arrival, police learned that a man with a firearm entered the business and demanded money from a worker at the store.

Block said the worker didn’t give the robber any money, and that the assailant then left the store without getting anything.

The assailant ran to the northeast, across the parking lot and through the intersection of S.W 29th and Oakley.

Block said police detectives and a K-9 unit were called to the scene. The police dogs weren’t able to pick up the man’s trail.

The robber was described as a white male standing 5-7 to 5-8 and weighing between 160 and 180 pounds. He was wearing a black ski mask, a black jacket, blue jeans and blue-gray tennis shoes.

Police as of early Tuesday weren’t releasing the type of weapon the assailant used in the attempted robbery.

No injuries were reported, and the case remains under investigation.

Anyone with information may call police detectives at (785) 368-9400 or Capital Area Crime Stoppers at (785) 234-0007.
