A judge Monday sentenced a Topeka man to more than seven years in federal prison for robbing two local fast food places.

Gary L. Gillom pleaded guilty to two counts of armed robbery in June. In his plea, he admitted that he brandished a firearm on June 26, 2016, as he robbed the Arby’s at 1187 S.W. Gage. Gillom, 30, ordered restaurant employees to hurry with the cash and fired a round into the ceiling, U.S. Attorney Tom Beall said.

Gillom also said he brandished a firearm while robbing the Long John Silver’s at 2746 S.W. Fairlawn on June 27, 2016.

He was arrested June 29, 2016, after investigators located a car used in the robberies.

Co-defendant Darien E. Fulton, 25, also of Topeka, was sentenced to six years in federal prison, Beall said.
