A man was arrested after he failed to pull over during a traffic stop, crashed the vehicle and fled on foot Monday.

The incident was reported around 4:50 p.m. in the 1500 block of S.W. Clay.

Topeka police Sgt. Dan Wilson said the black two-door Chevy was reported stolen from Jefferson County. The driver refused to pull over in central Topeka and crashed into a pole. He then fled on foot. Police apprehended the man in the 1500 block of S.W. Clay, just south of the crash site.

He was taken to a hospital as a precautionary measure, Wilson said, and would be booked into jail in connection with the stolen vehicle, traffic violations, a Topeka Municipal Court misdemeanor warrant and an Osage County felony warrant.

Mayoral elections are Aug. 2
