Emmett-based Sarto Countertops will move and expand to St. Marys, the Pottawatomie County Economic Development Corporation announced this week.
The small business purchased about 2 acres in the Sandy Hook Industrial Park and plans to build a 10,000-square-foot kitchen and bathroom counter top factory, said Jack Allston, executive director of EcoDevo. The move will likely double Sarto’s employment to about 30 people, he said.
Co-owner Giuseppe Vanderputten couldn’t be reached Friday for comment, but according to the company’s website, Sarto has made granite, marble and quartz counter tops in Emmett, just north of St. Marys, since 2005. The company offers a wide range of products, including sinks, and services the Topeka and Manhattan markets.
Sarto also operates Bella Countertops on US-24 highway, just east of Manhattan.
The move is “very positive” for St. Marys’ growing economy, Allston said, and likely will provide a bump to tax and utility revenue for the city of about 2,600.
Groundbreaking is expected in October.
