Washburn University open for classes as scheduled on Tuesday, the first day of the spring semester

Despite subzero temperatures and wind-chills around minus-15 degrees, Washburn University will be in session as scheduled Tuesday for the first day of classes for the spring semester.

The announcement was made around 6:25 a.m. and announced on the university’s Twitter account.

A tweet posted at 6:26 a.m. on the university’s official account read: “After our staff and leadership assessed the situation this morning, Washburn University will be open Tuesday, January 16.”

Nearly all public schools in Topeka and northeast Kansas announced they would be closed Tuesday because of the weather conditions.
