A Topeka Metro bus with a new multi-colored wrap is making the rounds on city streets, spreading the message of civic pride that serves as the driving force behind the Momentum 2022 initiative.
Though it has been rolling through Topeka streets for the past couple of weeks, the bus made its official debut during an event Tuesday morning at Quincy Street Station, 820 S.E. Quincy.
Susan Duffy, Topeka Metro’s general manager, said the city’s bus company was pleased to take part in the effort, noting it would offer Momentum 2022 prime advertising from 5:45 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays as the bus goes “up and down virtually every street in the city.”
Momentum 2022 is an effort of the Greater Topeka Partnership, a group composed of the Greater Topeka Chamber of Commerce, Go Topeka, Visit Topeka and Downtown Topeka Inc.
Among major goals of the partnership is to develop a “holistic” five-year economic plan for the capital city, with the focus on making Topeka a place where people will want to live, said Kayla Bitler, strategic coordinator for Momentum 2022.
Kelsey Papps, creative director for the Greater Topeka Partnership, designed the bus wrap. She said the goal was to utilize a gradient of the six colors in Momentum 2022 promotional materials and incorporate key words that capture the spirit of the initiative, such as “History,” “Fun,” “Family,” “Adventure,” “Jobs,” “Beauty,” “Art,” “Safety” and “Education.”
Papps said the words, which appear in various sizes, were selected by Momentum 2022 staff members. She said the words were selected to get people thinking about the momentum they were experiencing by living in Topeka.
