A new Topeka business is holding a toy drive Saturday to help out the Topeka Rescue Mission.

Topeka Pizza, 1630 S.W. Arvonia Place, will give out a free slice of pizza and drink in exchange for an unopened toy or new clothing item, said co-owner Justin Kochan. The event will take place from noon-4 p.m.

The restaurant is expected to open for regular business in mid- to late January. The eatery will have pizza, wings and subs.

Kochan said he and his brother, Brandon Kochan, who’s also a co-owner, like to give back to the community.

“What a good way to get things going in Topeka,” Justin Kochan said of the fundraiser.

Kochan, who is originally from Buffalo, N.Y., played for the Topeka RoadRunners during the 2009-2010 hockey season.

“My fiancee and I love Topeka and wanted to plant roots here to start our family,” he said.
