A 28-year-old Chanute man was injured early Wednesday after authorities said he fell asleep at the wheel and rolled his sport utility vehicle on a highway in Douglas County.

The crash was reported at 6:37 a.m. on US-59 highway at N. 650 Road.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer was northbound on US-59 when the driver fell asleep. The SUV entered the east ditch and overturned, coming to rest on its tires.

The driver, identified as Casey Lee Clines, was transported to Lawrence Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries he suffered in the crash.

The patrol said Clines, who was alone in his vehicle, was wearing a seat belt.
