Topeka History Guy: Kenny Rogers headlined first concert at Kansas Expocentre 30 years ago

Topeka Capital-Journal reporter Tim Hrenchir returns Thursday with another installment of Throwback Thursday with the History Guy. Hrenchir narrates a short video about the history of the Kansas Expocentre, which held its grand opening concert 30 years ago this week.

Nice article...I started at the Expocentre two days after Kenny Rogers performed as the Maintenance Supervisor. Side note, the white SUV sitting in front of the Expo in the video is mine. I loved my job at the Expo and will cherish the friendships I made there.

I started as an usher at the Expocentre a few months after he was there. Many big name, high-quality shows came here during the next few years, and I was stationed just in front of the big speakers for most shows.  I hope some of the 'greats' during that era still do road tours and will come back here again, but for some reason Topeka doesn't seem to draw in the big stars anymore.
