Man, 19, arrested in Saturday night homicide at Motel 6 in Lawrence

A 19-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a weekend homicide in north Lawrence, authorities said.


Tyrone J. Carvin on Tuesday morning was in custody in the Kansas City area on a warrant related to the shooting, which took place late Saturday at the Motel 6, 1130 N. 3rd St. in Lawrence.

Carvin suffered a gunshot wound during the incident, and was treated, then released, from a Kansas City-area hospital, said Lawrence police Sgt. Amy Rhoads.

Carvin will be brought to Lawrence, where he will face charges of first-degree murder, two counts of aggravated battery in Douglas County District Court.

Lawrence police responded about 11:30 p.m. Saturday to a shooting that occurred inside the motel.

Authorities said three people were shot during the incident and were transported to area hospitals with life-threatening injuries.

The homicide victim was identified as Cameron A. Hooks, 23, of Lenexa.
