Downtown Topeka’s Quiznos Classic Subs closed its doors permanently on Monday.

The restaurant, located at 809 S. Kansas Ave., is franchise owned, said Quiznos’ corporate spokeswoman Mimi Dell. She did not give the franchisee’s name, but confirmed he also owns the franchise at 5927 S.W. 29th St.

“There’s a lot of different reasons why they may choose to close,” she said. “It’s such a difficult decision to make.”

Previous stories in the Capital-Journal indicate the restaurant is owned by Brenda and Dave Wenrich. They could not be reached for comment.

Jim Klausman, who owns the Kansas Avenue building where the Quizno’s was located, said the decision to close the restaurant came from the Quiznos owners; he did not request that the company vacate the building.

He plans to lease the building.

You're an ignorant loon. That guy is responsible for hundreds of high paying jobs. The hotel is under construction. What have you achieved?

Great.  Yet another empty storefront on Kansas Avenue.  Pretty soon that street will be nothing but banks, "financial" offices, and the Ponzi scheme hotel, plus the always-to-be-empty downtown plaza.  And since some people think that we haven't wasted enough tax dollars downtown, we'll soon start flushing tax dollars down into the riverfront park.  Topeka and Shawnee county are shrinking but the powers that be keep wasting millions of tax dollars every year.
