Man killed in one-vehicle crash late Tuesday in Phillips County in northwest Kansas

One person was killed late Tuesday in a one-vehicle crash in northwest Kansas, authorities said.

The fatality victim was identified as Robert D. Speth, 49, of Logan, Kan.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported the crash occurred at 10:25 p.m. Tuesday on K-9 highway, four miles east of Logan in Phillips County.

The patrol said Speth was driving a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck west on K-9 highway when for an unknown reason he slammed on the brakes. The truck then hit the bridge and entered the north ditch, where it rolled several times before coming to rest on the driver’s side facing north.

The patrol said Speth, who was traveling alone in the truck, was taken to Phillips County Hospital in Phillisburg, where he was pronounced dead.

The patrol said Speth wasn’t wearing a seat belt.
