Topeka man comes down from roof without incident after fleeing from U.S. Marshals

Man wanted on a felony weapons violation

A man was brought down from a roof Wednesday night without incident after he fled from U.S. Marshals who were attempting to serve a felony warrant, according to Topeka police Lt. Aaron Jones.

The man was later identified as Thomas Kent, 43, of Topeka.

The incident was reported to Shawnee County Dispatch at 7:01 p.m.

Information suggesting Kent’s location led authorities to the 3600 block of S.W. Skyline Parkway. The location is off of S.W. Gage.

As law enforcement approached Kent, who wasn’t armed, fled to the roof of the building.

At least seven law enforcement vehicles responded to the scene. Some Topeka police officers were seen carrying rifles.

With temperatures at or near freezing, Kent became uncomfortable and surrendered, coming down from the roof from the backside of the residence, Jones said.

He was wanted in connection with a felony weapons violation.

A female connected to the incident was checked on the scene by AMR, but refused transport to a local hospital.

The incident ended by 7:57 p.m., Jones said.

Traffic on the residential street was blocked while emergency crews responded to the incident.
