Savanna Maue: Topeka prepares for public ice skating, and finding relief in Ramen Bowls homemade noodles

Hey all —

This week seems filled with fun family-friendly events! There’s tons to do, whether you want to travel or stay right here in Topeka as the winter weather sets in. I wanted to share another family-friendly event to plan for, the public skating times were announced this week at the Kansas Expocentre. Dec. 16 - 22 guests can skate in Landon Arena from 4 to 6 p.m. or 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Admission tickets are valid for one of the two-hour periods, and cost $7, plus $3 if you’d like to rent skates. Tickets will be available for purchase on the Southeast side of Landon.

Speaking of winter weather, I spent my week getting some first-hand experience dealing with homemade cold remedies that inevitably hit each year. In a purely coincidental twist, a local doctor recommended I try a dish at Ramen Bowls in Lawrence to soothe my sore throat, just a day after I set up the interview to meet with the business owners for this week’s story. Tim and Shantel Grace were such a joy to talk too, and their enthusiasm for growing downtown Lawrence was infectious. (In a good way.) They are so rightfully proud of their businesses and continually working to improve downtown Lawrence, and will soon have both Luckyberry and Ramen Bowls located along Mass St. Both businesses are thriving in the college atmosphere — and I have to say, the spice from their “Tan Tan Men” was just the kick my sinuses needed!
