Hey all —
This week I took a day trip to Manhattan, and was disappointed to see the a long-standing Manhattan eatery has decided to close its doors.
The Hibachi Hut on Poyntz Avenue had been owned by Bud and Bobby Cox since last year, Bobby Cox confirmed Thursday, and after a re-branding effort in August and a continual struggle to attract business — the brothers decided it was time for the restaurant to close.
The Hut originally opened in 1959, and was known for its Cajun-style cooking. Bobby Cox said after the business first closed, and the move downtown, they lost some faithful clientele — and with any business, time goes on and customers move away or begin looking for the next new thing.
Bobby Cox said with a few more years he thought the restaurant would once again be doing steady business, but with balancing all of their other commitments, “the writing was on the wall” and they decided to close earlier this month.
I haven’t heard yet what the new business will be to move into the coveted downtown retail space — but I’ll be sure to update you with the next new thing!
