Savanna Maue: New smoothie bar replaces former chocolate store in downtown Manhattan

Hey all —

This weekend, a new juice and smoothie bar moved into downtown Manhattan. Hazel Hill Chocolate resided in the space until April, and within months signage announcing “AeroJuice Coming Soon” was hung in the windows.

Since then the space underwent a makeover and is now brightly painted with AeroJuice’s signature colors of orange, purple and green.

An interesting trend returning to the Food and Fun scene, while Juice Stop’s still have multiple stores in the area, different smoothie bar chains have been making there way back into the market. According to the AeroJuice website, they have seven locations in Florida, and their 8th location, in Manhattan, is the first to branch outside of the sunshine state.

Last week, the smoothie bar held its grand opening, where guests could participate in food tastings, multiple giveaways and enjoy 30 percent off the entire menu throughout the day.

According to a news release from the franchise, AeroJuice is the only store of its kind to serve authentic Brazilian Açaí, a dish made of mashed palm fruit and often served with granola and bananas.

When asked why the previous owners moved from the space, owner Terry Xidis said the rent had increased in downtown Manhattan, and that the Topeka location would be supporting the Manhattan one should they choose to stay. Hazel Hill has been looking to reopen a second location, but Xidis said she couldn’t guarantee it would be in Manhattan.

AeroJuice is located at 106 S. 4th St., and is open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturdays and 7 a.m to 9 p.m on Sundays.
