RoadRunners turn back Mustangs 5-2

RIO RANCHO, N.M. -- The Topeka RoadRunners’ three-goal surge in the first period held up in a 5-2 victory against New Mexico on Friday night.

Michael Hill capped the explosion with a goal at 14:14 of the first, then scored again early in the second period for a 4-0 Runners lead.

After the Mustangs scored the next two goals -- by James Poston and Charles Baldwin -- the Runners capped the win with a Bob Marx goal on the power play late in the third period.

Justin Hussar and Kyle Sharkey started the scoring for Topeka (33-9-3) in the first period.

Topeka’s Eric Rohrkemper stopped 15 of 17 shots.

The RoadRunners play the Springfield Jr. Blues on Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. both nights.
