Runners win on road

RIO RANCHO, N.M. — The Topeka RoadRunners scored four goals in the third period of a 6-3 road victory Thursday against the New Mexico Mustangs.

Brian Christie and Joe Van Antwerp extended the Runners’ 2-1 lead to 4-2. After New Mexico’s Jake Webber made it 4-3 with a goal, Daniel Dupell clinched the Topeka win with back-to-back goals.

Justin Hussar’s two goals — one a power-play score — gave the Road Runners (32-8-3) a 2-0 lead in the first period. New Mexico’s Adam Chapie scored the lone goal of the second period to slice the Runners’ lead in half.

The Runners and Mustangs meet again at 7:30 tonight and Saturday night at the Santa Ana Star Center.
