Topeka man pleads guilty to robbing McDonald’s on S. Kansas Ave.

A man has pleaded guilty in federal court to robbing a Topeka McDonald’s, U.S. Attorney Tom Beall said Wednesday.

Brendon R. Thompson, 30, of Topeka, pleaded guilty to one count of robbery and one count of aiding and abetting another robber who brandished a firearm during the robbery.

The incident occurred on July 10 at the McDonald’s at 1100 S. Kansas Ave. In Thompson’s plea, he admitted going behind the counter and taking money from registers while a second robber brandished a firearm. They fled when police arrived. Thompson was arrested near the restaurant while the other robber got away.

Sentencing hasn’t been set. Both parties have recommended 130 to 165 months in federal prison, Beall said.
