Wilson’s perfect game highlights week for city bowlers

Substitute bowler rolls first 900 series in Texas history

Thanksgiving week took a toll on city bowler scores, with only a handful of honor roll marks recorded, including Russ Wilson’s perfect game.

It hardly was a perfect night for Wilson, however, who opened his Lenahan League outing at West Ridge Lanes with a score of 154 before posting the city’s 12th men’s 300 game this season. He finished with a 226 for a 680 series.

Darrell Gwaltney led the men with a 258-224-258 — 740 series Sunday in the Ten Pin Alley League at Gage Bowl, while Chelsie Bahr paced the women with a 620 set in the Lenahan League.

Gage Bowl proprietor Rex Haney moved into sixth place in the senior men’s rankings with a 222-246-233 — 705 series Tuesday in the Early Birds League at Gage, while Mike Granger, 213-257-225 — 695, and Jim Charity, 258-226-211 — 695, settled for a tie for 11th at West Ridge. Steve Reese tied for 10th with a 268 game at West Ridge.

Ann Dick’s 578 series and Kay Johnson’s 203 — 572 at West Ridge paced the senior women.

In youth action, Ethan Cowen claimed seventh place with a163-244-233-243 — 883 series at West Ridge, where John Baeten tied for 10th with a 267 game (in a 653 series).

Janae Peoples led the girls with a 199 — 517 outing at West Ridge.

Sean Osbourn rolled the 30th perfect series (pending approval) in United States Bowling Congress history on Monday, Nov. 21 at Copperfield Bowl in Houston. It was the first 900 recorded in Texas.

Osbourn, a 24-year-old right-hander, was bowling as a substitute in the late league after filling in for another bowler earlier in the evening, when he shot in the 670s. He had four 300s and three 800 series to his credit prior to that night.
