Tucked into the middle of the NOTO Arts District, Norsemen Brewing Co.’s large brick building stands out. And for the company’s president and CEO Jared Rudy, that’s a good thing.

“The goal was to become a staple to help it grow,” Rudy said of the young but thriving arts district in North Topeka.

Norsemen Brewing, which opened a year ago, offers a wide selection of beer. The brewery and taproom, 830 N. Kansas Ave., has eight to 14 different kinds of beer available at any given time and brews everything on-site.

Jared Rudy talks about Noresmen Brewing in NOTO, which was named Best NOTO Restaurant/Retail and Best New Business for 2017.

Norsemen Brewing also carries local wine and serves food. KB Smokehouse, a food truck based in Lecompton, brings pulled pork sliders and other food to the brewery five days a week.

Occasionally, Rudy said, they give tours of the brewery.

Norsemen Brewing started in 2010 as a fun thing to do at home for Rudy, Adam Rosdahl and Andy Sutton. Soon, Rudy’s and Rosdahl’s wives became interested, and not long afterward, the group had formed Fat Back Brewing Associates Corporation.

The business eventually morphed into Norsemen Brewing Co. — a name they chose to pay homage to now-closed Northern Hills and Logan junior high schools and as a fun theme for decorating the brewery and naming its beers.
